Upstream

Upstream means exploiting new innovations for use in the space domain or becoming a supplier to the space sector.

From launch vehicles and satellite manufacturing to futuristic projects such as space mining and space based solar power, the upstream segment is producing ambitious and unorthodox ideas. While traditionally the work of large companies and governmental bodies, small-scale startups can change the way space activities are conducted and fill in market niches by providing services at lower prices with faster development times.

At the cutting edge of the scientific and engineering arenas, expertise from multiple disciplines is needed to keep progress moving. Whether you’re working with advanced materials or aerospace engineering through to laser physics, manufacturing or design, you can contribute to humanity’s future in space!

In certain cases, in order to apply to ESA BIC Sweden as an upstream idea a Letter of Interest from a potential customer or user is required. Join our upstream webinar on the 18th of August to learn more about this requirement and how to demonstrate that your idea is useful in a space context.
