Downstream
Downstream means bringing space down to Earth and utilizing space systems or exploiting space technology in a non-space domain.
The satellites which orbit the Earth provide us with valuable data. This data is transformed into applications which deliver useful digital services to address the needs of our planet, society and economy. For example, with the help of satellite data, we can monitor the status of the natural environment, locate ourselves when in unfamiliar landscapes and connect with others online.
Downstream also means using technologies, i.e. hardware, software, processes or IPR, developed for a space environment here on Earth. The demanding environment of outer space requires specialised technologies which, when brought down to Earth, can have a previously unforeseen but highly innovative use in another domain.
ESA BIC Sweden has certain expectations about the innovation height required for downstream applications. Join our downstream webinar on the 17th of August to learn more about this and how to communicate space as an element of your solution.
