PROGRAMME FOR WORKSHOP IN MARINE BIOTECHNOLOGY, 2021
Before the workshop you'll be asked to answer a questionnaire about what challenges you see in your area / product / research questions. Additionally, you should indicate why you want to participate in the workshop and what you hope to get out of it. The questionnaire is distributed at least one week before the workshop. The answers form the basis for group division during the workshops (a proposal for group divisions in relation to the themes "Health", "Marine materials" and "Antifouling" is made by the organizers/ambassadors).
Based on the survey responses, the organizers/ambassadors try to ensure that there are matching expertise /researchers who participate in the meeting.
MEETING 1 - May 11
Welcome and short introduction
The Kristineberg Center presents itself, its vision and the services / infrastructure that can be offered. This year there will be a virtual tour/presentation.
Efthalia Arvaniti, PhD Program manager, will make a presentation of the work within the SUBMARINER Network for Blue Growth EEIG, an innovation network within Marine Biotechnology.
Division of participants, based on their indicated preferences in the questionnaire, on the three themes "Health", "Marine materials" and "Antifouling".
All participants - both companies and researchers - present themselves briefly to the other partners in that theme - maximum 3 minutes and 3 slides per person, i.e. "speed-talks".
Division into subgroups within each theme (around certain challenges and ideas). The aim is here to form projects for future collaborations and to write applications to seek external funding. Things to discuss and identify "What resources are available to solve the challenge?" And "Which resources are missing?"
The results from the group discussion about challenges and resources are presented “in plenum” (all participants on the workshop; not only within the themes) so that everyone can take part and give feedback on the various proposals/reflections.
The day ends with information what will happen in the 3 weeks until the next meeting.
One thing that will happen during these 3 weeks is that all groups, i.e. those who later want to be involved and further develop their project ideas, should deliver a synopsis / summary / "pitch" about what is the main features of that group's proposal. Max one page. This will be sent in 1 week before meeting 2, and sent out to the other participants.

MEETING 2 - JUNE 2
This second part of the workshop is largely a writers' retreat ("skrivarstuga") where concrete proposals are carved out to more finished concepts.
Welcome and introduction
Presentations of the innovation services provided at Gothenburg University, Chalmers and Innovatum Science Park. The people will take part in the different groups' planning / discussions to provide input. The organizations will describe the opportunities that exist to apply for local support/money, and describe opportunities to apply for funding within the EU.
The call "Blue Innovation" within the National research programme for oceans and water, FORMAS will presented.
Writers' retreat where each project works together (in separate zoom-rooms) to further develop their projects. The goal of the day is that each group will design a number of work packages (WP) that more concretely describe what is to be done within the development project. This should be text that can be used in coming applications.
All project ideas will be presented for max 3 minutes followed by some discussion- max 10 minutes total time / group - to get feedback on the planned activities; for instance, to get input if there is any competence / resource that is missing in the constellation and should be recruited.
Round up of the workshop, including some words about follow-up during the fall.
